Make Windows 11 more convenient and secure

Start button back to the left corner

By default, the Start button is placed in the middle of the taskbar in Windows 11. To move it to the left corner, do this:

1. Open Start > Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
2. Taskbar behaviors > Taskbar alignment.
3. Set the desired Start button location.

Show full names of all files

By default, Windows only displays the full names of files that are unknown to it (e.g. Unknown.abc). For known files, it only displays the first part of the file name (e.g. Document).

This is exploited by hackers who use the name to disguise a file and make it seem like it is a different type of file. For example, the file name “Beautiful-house.jpg.exe” may give the user the impression that it is a JPG image file because the “.exe” is not shown to the user. Actually, it is a program containing a virus.

It is highly recommended to enable the feature for Windows to display full file names.

1. Open File Explorer (Win + E on the keyboard or open any folder window)
2. Open the “View” menu
3. Select “Show” > “File name extensions”

OR

1. Open File Explorer.
2. Click the “More” button on the top bar and select “Options”.
3. Open the “View” tab.
4. Look for the option “Hide extensions for known file types”.
5. Uncheck this option.
6. Click “Apply” and “OK”.

Now all file names will be displayed with their extensions, for example:

• dokument.docx
• pilt.jpg
• andmed.csv
